Wool carpet cleaning from a WoolSafe-approved specialist

Your wool carpet was chosen for its colour, its feel underfoot and the years of wear it gives, and it is laid where appearances count: the boardroom, the reception, the hotel corridor, the function room. Wool is keratin, the same protein as hair, so it reacts to chemistry that nylon tolerates. A high-pH detergent, water run too hot or a floor left wet too long causes damage that a second clean cannot reverse.

Our wool carpet cleaning is set up to keep all three. Every product that touches your carpet is WoolSafe-approved, the rinse runs cooler, and the last pass is mildly acidic, returning the fibre to the slightly acidic state it left the dye house in. The soil and old residue come out, the colours come up even and the pile dries soft, and you have our price in writing before you book. Wool in a home gets exactly the same chemistry and care. One call and the cost estimate for your rooms is free.

WoolSafe Approved Fibre Care Specialist

Zoran, our owner, earned the credential on WoolSafe's Fibre Care Specialist course, and inspects and prices every job personally. The products we use on wool carry WoolSafe approval, which is granted only after laboratory testing on wool fibre and its dyes.

IICRC Certified Firm, insured and police-cleared

We work to AS/NZS 3733:2018 and the IICRC S100 with our own technicians, never subcontractors, each holding a National Police Clearance. We carry $20M public and products liability and $250,000 of cover on goods in our care, plus workers compensation for the whole team.

Steam cleaning, set up for wool

Hot water extraction flushes soil and old detergent from the base of the pile and recovers it, which is why it is our first choice on wool. Run cooler, with WoolSafe-approved chemistry and an acidic finish, it cleans deeply without harm to the fibre.

A free inspection and our 14-day promise

We inspect and measure on site at no charge and send one written price, GST inclusive. If anything isn't right after your clean, tell us within 14 days and we'll come back and set it right, at no extra charge. Our Google reviews show how clients found the result.

Wool carpet due for a clean?

Start with a free inspection

We read your carpet's fibre, construction and backing on site, recommend the clean it needs and send the price in writing. The day of the clean is yours to choose.

Construction and backing

Woven, tufted and loop pile wool

Two wool carpets can need two different cleans. How the carpet is made decides how much water its backing can take, how hard the pile can be worked and where a colour could move, so we identify the construction on the free inspection before we recommend a method or a price.

Woven Axminster and Wilton

Woven on a loom with the pile and backing interlocked, and often an 80/20 blend of wool and nylon in a multicoloured pattern. Traditional woven backings carry jute or cotton yarns, which shrink when they are soaked and release brown lignin as they dry, so these carpets get the least water the clean allows and the fastest drying we can give them.

Tufted wool

Wool yarn is tufted through a primary backing, locked in with latex and finished with a second backing. Too much heat softens the latex and the backings can separate, which the trade calls delamination, so the rinse stays at a moderate temperature.

Loop pile

Uncut loops wear well but fray at the tips when they are scrubbed hard, leaving a permanent fuzz across the surface. Loop pile gets a soft brush, and the extraction does the cleaning.

Wool blends and wool carpet tiles

A wool-rich blend cleans as wool, so it gets the same products and the same care. Wool carpet tiles take the same chemistry too, with the moisture held back at the joins so no water runs under a tile.

No specification sheet?

We identify it on site

You don't need the carpet's paperwork. We read the fibre, the construction and the backing on the free visit and tell you what each means for the clean and the drying time.

Wool and goat hair

Stain removal on wool and goat hair carpet

Goat hair, like wool, is a keratin fibre, so marks on goat hair carpet tiles are treated with the same wool-safe spotters at the same controlled temperatures. Both fibres have a water-repellent outer layer that slows a water-based spill from soaking in, and most marks come out well when they are treated soon with the spotter that suits them. These are the spills that set fastest on wool, and each gets harder to shift with every day it is left.

Coffee, tea and red wine

These are tannin stains, and red wine brings a dye with it. On wool they take an acidic tannin spotter, because an alkaline cleaner from the cupboard turns the tannin brown and sets it, and can lift the carpet's own colour.

Ink and food dyes

The dyes in ink, cordial and sports drinks are acid dyes, the same class that colours wool, so they bond to the fibre's dye sites. Treated within hours, most lift; left for days, part of the colour can stay for good.

Rust and metal marks

Rust is iron oxide, left by metal chair and table feet that stood on damp carpet. It needs an acidic rust remover suited to wool, because bleach and alkaline products set it deeper.

Oil, grease and cosmetics

Grease, make-up and adhesive residue don't mix with water, so a solvent spotter breaks them down before the rinse carries them out.

Urine and protein spills

Blood, vomit, food and urine take an enzyme spotter and cool water only, since heat fixes a protein stain to wool, which is a protein itself. Urine also leaves alkaline salts that can shift the dye if they stay in the fibre.

Worries, answered

How we protect wool during cleaning

Wool keeps its colour, size and texture through a clean when the chemistry, the heat, the water and the drying are controlled. Each kind of damage clients ask us about comes from losing control of one of those four, and we hold all four on every wool clean.

Alkali damage

High-pH detergents made for synthetic carpet break down wool's protein, and the fibre turns harsh and weak and loses its sheen. Every pre-spray, spotter and rinse we put on wool is WoolSafe-approved and stays within the pH range wool tolerates.

Dye bleed

Wool's acid dyes are fixed in an acid bath at the mill, and alkaline products and heat loosen them, so a strong colour runs into the paler one beside it. It shows first in patterned Axminster. We keep wool on the acid side of neutral throughout the clean, and where a dye is unfamiliar we test a hidden spot first.

Cellulosic browning

Jute and cotton in a backing carry natural tannins and lignin. Too much water, alkaline residue and slow drying dissolve them and draw them up to the tips of the pile, where they dry as a brown stain that can become permanent. We use only the water the clean needs, finish with an acidic rinse and plan the drying before we start.

Shrinkage and felting

Wool fibres are covered in scales that lock together under heat, water and friction, which is how felt is made. In a carpet that mats the pile, and on a woven carpet it can draw the edges back from the walls. Our rinse runs cooler, the brushing stays gentle and extra dry passes take the water back out.

Unsure how your carpet will react?

Ask us before anything goes on it

We check the fibre, the dyes and the backing during the free inspection, then explain how we would clean your wool and how long it would take to dry, before you book.

Step by step

Our wool carpet cleaning process

Each of the seven steps is set for wool, from the first vacuum to the lock-up. The method and the drying plan come with your written quote, so you approve the whole clean before a date is set.

Fibre, construction and backing identified

We walk the floor with you at no charge. You show us the marks, the worn lanes and the rooms you need back by a set time, and we answer your questions there and then. We measure the area with a laser measure and read the carpet: wool or a blend, woven or tufted, cut or loop pile, the backing and how stable the dyes are.

Wool carpet in hotels

Hotel corridors, ballrooms and function rooms are mostly woven Axminster, usually 80% wool and 20% nylon, patterned to hide wear. Room-service spills, food and drink at functions and luggage wheels soil them, and the pattern hides a stain until it has set.

We clean corridors, function rooms and suites when each can be closed, day or night, with the drying time worked into your bookings.

An exceptional service! I didn't know carpet cleaning could be done so professionally, and Zoran's knowledge of the correct chemical combinations to remove stains from various fibres/fabrics was quite surprising. No chit-chat, no problems, just the relevant questions and explanations. I would recommend Zoran's services to anyone. Thank you.

What it costs

Wool carpet cleaning prices

  • The area

Most of the price follows the square metres, measured with a laser on the free visit. One open floor takes less time than the same area split into offices, corridors and stairs.

  • How the carpet is made

Dense cut pile and woven Axminster need slower passes and more drying care than a low loop pile, so the same area takes longer.

  • How soiled it is

Light soil comes out with the pre-spray and the rinse. Heavier lanes need brushing first, and marks need spotting time.

  • Access and timing

Hose reach from the van, upper floors and lifts, and the hours each area can stay closed while it dries, all shape the time on site.

Our minimum charge for wool carpet cleaning is $385, GST inclusive. A small job costs that amount, and on a bigger floor the $385 is simply the first part of the total, never added to it. The real figure comes from the free inspection, in writing, and it holds unless the scope of the work changes. Ask for yours below, or call Zoran on 0460 815 038. For a wool carpet at home, ring us. The estimate comes over the phone and it is free.

Between our visits

Caring for wool between cleans

Wool holds its appearance well when it is looked after between professional cleans. It gives up dry soil easily to a vacuum, and a water-based spill blotted in the first few minutes often comes out completely. We recommend a professional clean at least yearly, and more frequently where heavy foot traffic or food and drink demand it; how often we come is always your decision.

Vacuum the walkways often

Sand from car parks and the street wears wool at the base of the pile. A commercial upright with a beater brush, run slowly over entrances and walkways, takes most of it out before it does damage.

Blot a spill, never rub it

Lay a clean white cloth over the spill and press, moving to a dry part of the cloth until no more colour comes up. Rubbing spreads the spill and frays the pile.

Keep household products off wool

Supermarket carpet sprays and laundry detergents are made for synthetics and clothes. On wool an alkaline one can cause browning or loosen dye, and the residue they leave attracts soil, so the patch darkens again within weeks.

Mats at every entrance

Walk-off matting long enough for several strides traps sand and water at the door, before either reaches the wool.

FAQ

Wool carpet cleaning questions from Perth businesses

Still have a question?

Ask us directly

If your question isn't answered here, call us. You'll get a straight answer about your carpet and your premises, with no obligation.

Can wool carpet be steam cleaned?

Yes. Hot water extraction, the trade name for steam cleaning, is our first choice for wool carpet, because it rinses the soil, spill residue and old detergent out of the pile instead of leaving them behind. What makes it safe on wool is the way it is set up:

  • WoolSafe-approved pre-sprays and spotters, with no high-pH detergent and no chlorine bleach
  • A cooler rinse, so heat, water and friction never combine to felt the fibre
  • An acidic last rinse that clears alkaline residue and holds the acid dyes in place
  • Dry passes after every wet pass, with the drying planned before the clean starts

The method for your floor is settled at the free inspection, after we have looked at its construction, backing and soil.

How much does wool carpet cleaning cost in Perth?

It starts at $385, GST inclusive. That is our minimum charge. It covers the trip, the set-up and the opening stretch of the cleaning, so a small area costs exactly that and a large one includes it in the total. Beyond the minimum, the time your carpet needs sets the price:

  • The area, measured on site with a laser measure
  • The construction, from a low loop pile to dense cut pile and woven Axminster
  • How soiled it is, and the marks you want treated
  • Access, and when each area can be closed to dry

The inspection is free, the price comes to you in writing, and it only changes if the job does. Our pricing guide explains what moves the price on any commercial floor.

How long does wool carpet take to dry after cleaning?

Steam-cleaned wool is usually dry in 4 to 8 hours. Where your floor falls in that range depends on four things:

  • The fibre: wool holds water inside each fibre and lets it go gradually, where nylon carries it on the surface
  • The pile: dense cut pile and woven carpet hold more water than a low loop pile
  • The soil: a heavily soiled floor needs more rinsing, so more water passes through it
  • The air: warm, dry, moving air speeds the drying; cool, humid, still air slows it

Air movers bring the time down where an area is needed back early. The drying arrangements are agreed when we quote, with the clean booked for a time the area can stay empty until it's dry.

What is cellulosic browning, and can it be fixed?

Cellulosic browning is a tan or brown stain that rises into the pile from cellulose fibres in the carpet, usually jute or cotton yarns in the backing. Over-wetting, alkaline products and slow drying dissolve the tannins and lignin in those yarns, and the water carries them up the pile, where they dry on the tips as a brown discolouration.

We prevent it on every wool clean with controlled moisture, WoolSafe-approved products, an acidic final rinse and planned drying. Browning that has appeared recently usually lightens with an acidic browning treatment and a rinse. Browning that has been in the carpet for months can be permanent; at the inspection we say which of the two we are looking at.

What does WoolSafe approved mean?

It means the people and the products cleaning your wool meet the standards of the WoolSafe Organisation, the independent body that tests cleaning products on wool and trains the professionals who use them. On our side that means Zoran, our owner, holding WoolSafe Approved Fibre Care Specialist standing, and every product we use on wool, from the pre-spray to the final rinse, carries WoolSafe approval.

A product earns that approval in a laboratory, where it is tested on wool for its pH and for any effect on the fibre's strength and colour. That guards your carpet against the three kinds of chemical damage wool is prone to: alkali damage, dye bleed and cellulosic browning. Both our WoolSafe credential and our IICRC Certified Firm certificate are on our About page.

Will cleaning shrink our wool carpet?

No, provided the clean is set up for wool. Wool felts and shrinks when heat, water and friction act on it together, and a woven carpet with jute or cotton yarns in its backing can shrink if those yarns are soaked and then dry slowly. So the rinse runs cooler, the brushing stays gentle, the water goes on sparingly and comes back out with dry passes, and the drying is planned before we start. If your carpet has shrunk or pulled back from a wall after an earlier clean, show us at the inspection and we'll check its backing before recommending anything.

Can red wine and coffee be removed from wool carpet?

In most cases, yes, when they are treated soon. Coffee, tea and red wine are tannin stains, and red wine carries a dye as well, which bonds to wool's dye sites the same way the carpet's own colour did. We treat the tannin with an acidic spotter made for wool, then rinse and extract the spot. A fresh spill usually comes out completely; one left for days, or scrubbed with a household cleaner, can leave a shadow that stays.

Until we arrive, blot the spill with a white cloth, keep alkaline sprays away from it and call us on 0460 815 038. Our guide to removing common office stains covers other marks.

How often does wool carpet need a professional clean?

Yearly at the very least, and sooner where the carpet calls for it. What decides how much sooner:

  • Foot traffic, and the sand walked in from car parks and streets
  • Food and drink on the floor, as in function rooms and boardrooms
  • The carpet's colour, since pale wool shows soil sooner
  • What your lease or the carpet's warranty requires

Wool hides soil well, so it can look acceptable while sand is wearing the pile from its base, and a yearly clean takes that grit out before the wear shows. We recommend a frequency for each area at the inspection, and you decide how often we come.

Do you clean goat hair carpet tiles?

Yes. Goat hair is an animal hair of the same keratin as wool, so goat hair carpet tiles are cleaned with the same WoolSafe-approved products and the same control of heat and water. The fibre is coarse and hard-wearing, and marks on it respond to the spotters we use on wool. We identify the fibre and the tile's backing on the free visit, then recommend the clean and give you the price in writing.

Do you clean wool rugs as well?

Yes. Wool rugs get the same WoolSafe-approved products and are priced per rug, with the same $385 minimum charge as carpet, so a rug cleaned on the visit with your carpet becomes part of the one job. Hand-knotted and woven rugs have their own needs, from the foundation to the fringe, which our rug cleaning page explains.

When can you clean our wool carpet?

Any day of the week, at the time you choose, with the area empty while we work. Steam-cleaned wool has to dry undisturbed, so the clean is booked for an evening, a weekend or a closed day. We get in touch before every clean as a courtesy reminder.

What do we need to do before the clean?

Very little. Ask your team to take personal items, bins and chair mats out from beneath the desks, and leave the air conditioning running during the clean and after it if you can, because moving air shortens the drying. We move chairs and light furniture ourselves and return them afterwards, and we clean around heavy pieces. If an area holds anything fragile or valuable, point it out at the inspection.

What if something isn't right after the clean?

We come back and put it right. Let us know in the 14 days after your clean, and we return at a time that suits you to correct it at no extra charge. The promise covers the quality of our work on your wool. The Australian Consumer Law protects you as well, and this promise is in addition to it.
